Within the program students have created a learning community in which they are comfortable sharing ideas, exploring new topics and activities, and just having fun together. Read the March 2017, August and November 2016 newsletters to get a sampling of what we do. And of course, discover more by looking at the other pages under this section.
One program we look forward to every spring is the annual Honors Symposium, where students present the results of their original research and creative projects. Subjects are diverse and range across many disciplines. In spring 2016 we heard about the development of the nocturne as a musical form, cultural donation trends in San Antonio, and music pedagogy techniques. Each year we have several biology and chemistry topics on view. The symposium is always free and the public is invited. Watch the Honors calendar for a late March date.
Study Abroad in Heidelberg
The UIW Honors Program was in Heidelberg, Germany in June 2016 for our first honors courses overseas. Our European Study Center is in a beautiful residential location near the center of town, and the Summer I honors semester included planned excursions each week, which include local businesses and museums, trips to Worms, Strasbourg and more. Heidelberg itself is a beautiful college city with easy access to many other points in Germany and beyond. More information on the ESC can be found in this brochure. We plan our next ESC classes in June 2018. Next on the agenda is a trip to Europe in spring 2017 with our Social & Political Thought class.
