  • Doria Gutierrez Cross & family on the recent loss of her mother, Alma De La Cruz Gutierrez (BSN ’56).
  • Dr. Shandra Esparza (Athletic Training & Rehabilitative Sciences Program Director) & family on the recent loss of her mother, Anna Aurlee PruskiAnna Pruski, born August 31, 1935, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at the age of 83, peacefully in her home in Kosciuszko. Anna was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She is reunited in heaven with her husband of 66 years, Alvin Pruski and her parents, Felix V. and Ella Snoga, of Panna Maria. Please click here for visitation and service information. 


BLACK HISTORY MONTH - DID YOU KNOW?

Did You Know? In 1872, Charlotte E. Ray became the first female African-American lawyer in the United States. She's also one of the first women to be admitted to the D.C. bar. Charlotte E. Ray is the first woman to be granted permission to argue cases in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in the capital.

UIW reaches agreement with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University 
The University of the Incarnate Word and Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) have reached an agreement to work together toward the internationalization of higher education through collaboration in education, research and other activities, with the goal of enhancing and furthering academic and cultural exchange between the two universities. APU is a private institution in Beppu, Ōita, Japan and is one of only 37 universities in Japan to be designated a Top Global University by the Japanese government. Pictured below are UIW President, Dr. Thomas Evans and APU President, Mr. Deguchi Haruaki.

Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities Annual Meeting
On Saturday, Feb. 2, UIW President, Dr. Thomas Evans attended the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) Annual Meeting, where he joined a panel session featuring ACCU member presidents from around the globe. The presidents discussed how their institutions have responded to significant domestic and global challenges and how they have identified opportunities to address those challenges and ensure the future of their institutions. The annual meeting was held Feb. 2 - 4 in Washington, D.C.

16th Annual Red Dress Health Fair and Fashion Show
On Tuesday, Feb. 12, UIW hosted the 16th annual Red Dress Health Fair and Fashion Show. The UIW community and guests enjoyed numerous vendors as part of the event, healthy living information, and demonstrations and tips provided by students from UIW’s professional programs. The fashion show featured unique designs from local high school designers and UIW's own Fashion students. This annual event aims to promote womens' heart health.

Nursing Scholarship Reception
On Tuesday, Feb. 12 the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing hosted its annual Nursing Scholarship Reception. Congratulations to all recipients!

Douglass Day Transcribe-a-thon
On Thursday, Feb. 14, UIW students celebrated Frederick Douglass's birthday with an open-mic style read-a-thon. UIW students, faculty, and community members read or performed works such as The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, the 1883 speech given by Frederick Douglass at the National Convention of Colored Men, and Frederick Douglass, a poem by Robert Hayden.

Preparations for the unveiling of the new uiw.edu website continue, as the launch date has been delayed to early March. We will continued to keep you updated.

Network Disruption – Saturday, February 16
UIW’s internet service will be intermittently disrupted between 9 - 11 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 due to required network equipment updates. Users on campus and those off site attempting to access MyWord, Emedley, Blackboard, and Zoom will encounter periodic disruptions and should plan accordingly.

Cutting Edge Fiesta Medal
The Cutting Edge Fiesta Medal is now available for purchase in the Joyce Building 2nd floor office suite. The medal may be purchased Monday - Friday, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Visitation House Fiesta Medal
The Visitation House 2019 Fiesta Medal is here. Medals can be picked up on campus at the WGC Offices located in the Brackenridge Villa, Lower Level, or at Visitation House, 945 W. Huisache. Suggested donation is $10. Supplies are limited. All proceeds benefit women and children who are experiencing poverty and homelessness. Visitation House is a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word. Call Cynthia Bossard at (210) 735-6910 or email cynthia.bossard@amormeus.org for more info.
